Kate McElderry is the author of Declan Someone (The Journey of Declan Noone), a finalist for the 2026 International Book Awards (YA inspirational fiction), published by Foreshore Books, first launched in Baltimore, Maryland and soon after in Dublin, Ireland. Declan Someone was inspired by Kate’s own neurodiversity, her students, and time spent writing in Ireland.

A member of educational boards and writing guilds, Kate has presented at numerous learning summits, seminars, conferences, schools, universities, and libraries, including, European Dyslexia Association, Club Na Muinteoiri, American University, Oxford University, Towson University, and more.

A Peace Corps Volunteer turned classroom teacher, educational director, international speaker and writer, Kate, has served youth and families of all backgrounds, in various parts of the globe, for three decades. Currently, she runs a reading, book and journaling club in the juvenile justice system.

When not working or volunteering, Kate enjoys spending summers unplugged, reading, writing, and creating art, preferably on the coastline.
